Deed theft complaints to New York’s Attorney General more than tripled
Complaints rose from 149 in 2023 to 222 in 2024 and 517 in 2025, according to the Attorney General’s office.
New York adds deed theft funding and tighter notary rules
In June 2026 the state announced new money against deed theft and stricter rules for the notaries whose stamps deeds depend on.
